Rabies scare after puppy bite hits Florida Southern coeds

Seven students at Florida Southern College Lakeland are known to have been bitten by a puppy later found rabid. Patricia Laden of Teaneck New Jersey and four other bitten coeds were identified. The pup, mascot at the Alpha Omicron Pi house, died on Monday and tested positive for rabies, prompting warnings to about 2 000 students and relatives.

Swan Missing From Park Found at Mt Lena

A park swan went AWOL and drifted about Antietam Creek near Bridgeport. It tiredly landed in a field at Mt Lena and was picked up by E G Reyaz who kept it in a cage while inquiries to SPCA and City Park proceeded. Park officials planned to recover the swan.

Thieves Steal Clothing From Church Kitchen

A report to police last night recounts thefts from St. Mack's Lutheran Church on West Washington Street. Victims include C. Miller Petre who lost a coat, Wayne Decker with a gray gaberdine coat, and Berths Embry who reported a pocketbook missing amid several days of thefts.

Funkstown Girl Raises 30 for Hoover Fund

Police Seek Missing Woman in City

City police sought a missing Mary Rebecca Frazier 31 of 100 block East Franklin Street last seen wearing a white coat. She is five feet four inches tall, weighs 110 pounds with brown hair. Reported missing by husband Vey Wraner.

Police were told by manager Max Mogenson that youths have damaged North End Market on Manila Avenue, throwing crates and store property during recent nights. An apprehended boy was found on North Potomac Street after residents reported BB gunfire lighting outages.

Fire devastates Springhill coal town business district

SPRINGHILL Nova Scotia authorities report a wind driven fire cut through the main street destroying two blocks and 15 businesses plus five residences. Mayor Ralph Gilroy fears most shops may not reopen. estimated loss at least a million dollars with 20 percent of town tax revenue affected. Big Arctic Snow Owl Sends County Youth To Hospital

A snowy owl attacked by two boys near Leitersburg left George Ridge and companion tangled in barbed wire, sending George Ridge to Washington County Hospital with deep leg wounds and tetanus shots. Freshet Clears Algae From Potamat River, Improves Water

Freshet on the Potamat River is expected to crest midafternoon at about 19 percent above normal flow. William Beard, superintendent at Hagerstown water pumping station near Williamsport, said the rise will remove algae and debris along the riverbanks. The river will have improved water as a result.
