The Southern California Rapid Transit District adopted an exact fare plan to cut robberies affecting 1500 buses. Fares will be collected to reduce holdups this year as 370 safety containers and a two way radio system are installed. alarms have been added to improve security across the fleet.
Major banks raised their prime rate on business loans a quarter point to 6 percent, the highest since 1947. Led by First National City Bank, Chase Manhattan, Morgan Guaranty, Irving Trust, Manufacturers Hanover, Bankers Trust, others followed. The move mirrors Federal Reserve actions raising the discount rate to 5 percent.
A double funeral service is planned Thursday for 103-year old Lena Engberg and her 66-year-old daughter Ethel L. Engberg. Lena Engberg died Saturday of influenza in Casper and was Casper's oldest resident, while Ethel died Monday of pneumonia.
