UNITED NATIONS DEC 18 Japan was admitted to the United Nations by a unanimous vote, becoming the organization’s 80th member. After years of Soviet vetoes, Russia withdrew opposition following a postwar peace accord with Japan. Rapist Given Three Years By Court Here

Faull Reed Barnhart, 28, of Hager flown Rt. 6, was convicted by a Cir cuit Court jury of raping a 50 year old Waynesboro woman. Judge D. K. McLaughlin sentenced him to three years in the House of Correction, citing jury leniency and doubt about the witness's testimony. The court found the rape occurred after entering his car on a Waynesboro street last May.
