Services Today For Three Victims Of Trailer Fire
Three children of Mr and Mrs Lester Witek died in a trailer fire four miles south of Boonshoro on Park Hall Road. Funeral services will be at Boonshoro Cemetery at 4 pm with Rev Bugne B Wyand officiating. Fire Marshal Cronauer cites a faulty oil heater as the likely cause after neighbors heard a brief hum then a roar. Neighbors Jen nings Poffenberger and Mase witnessed the blaze starting around 3:05 pm as they attempted to reach the trailer.

Local Woman Fined 50 For Shoplifting
Dorothy Pearl Hosa, 54, of 93 Nottingham Road, was fined 50 and costs after being convicted of shoplifting an 8.77 dress from Two Guys store at 1111 Downsville Pike. City patrolman Harold B. Kline arrested her Wednesday for the theft. Other court actions include Dana Southall, 20, of Darlingtown, Pa., fined 100 and costs for speeding over 70 mph on Interstate 70. Elwood Ernest Obitts, 47, of Locust Street, given five days suspended jail for drunkenness. John Luther Swain, 63, and Jay Daniel Taylor Jr., both received suspended 10-dollar fines for traffic charges. Victor Kemp Wilkes, 58, fined 19 and costs for disobeying a red signal.

City police reported three burglaries involving attempts at stores and residences between 10:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m. A portable TV and over $1,000 in cash and checks were taken from Miller's living room and Portail TV, while a basement apartment and a snack machine also faced break in attempts. Officers noted footprints in fresh snow and that burglars fled through a window screen.
