The weather bureau predicts a cold wave today with sharp north and west winds. Last night’s gusts cooled the air quickly and forecasters expect noticeably lower temperatures to arrive as the day progresses.
The Thatcher Glass Company and Owens-Hlingis Glass Company testifying before the committee disclosed that Thatcher fixes prices for at least 79 percent of milk bottles sold in the U.S. and other firms set prices for fruit jars and liquor bottles. Levis defended patent use to stabilize overproduction while committee officials noted broad patent concentration across industries.
In a brief note the firm signals it would license its machinery for external applications, following prior statements by Levis about willingness to permit use of his machines by others. The remark hints at potential partnerships or expanded production leverage.
R F Cromwell State Supervisor of Educational and Vocational Guidance spoke after a Rotary luncheon at Hotel Alexander. He outlined a four point program to guide students toward suitable careers, stressing information, preparation, placement in fitting jobs, and school responsibility. The event featured Joyce Sisters and prize awards to Ina Kimbell, Nevin Moore, and others.
Hundreds attended Santa Claus Inc dance at The Club with proceeds funding toys candy and fruit for needy local kids. About 250 people danced to Club Royal Orchestra, while a floor show by R C Carder committee and ventriloquist acts entertained guests during the event.
A London county jury convicted John Anderson, 27, of Purcellville for criminal assault on a young married woman and sentenced him to die February 10 in Leesburg Virginia. The courtroom scene included emotional testimony from the victim.
A young woman testified that Anderson broke into her home near Hamilton Virginia on November 15 while she was alone with her baby. She feared for the child's life and complied to protect the baby. Commonwealth's Attorney Charles F. Harrison said she sacrificed her honor for her baby's life.
