In Cleveland, drivers who halted 112 miles of the Ohio Turnpike last week to press grievances spoke of being treated as second class citizens by police, motorists, shippers, and depots. They demanded one license plate for all states, a diesel price cap, a 65 mph federal speed limit, higher gross weight limits, freight-rate increases, use of fuel taxes for highways, cab safety rights, priority fuel access, and other costs to be shifted to shippers. The ICC moved to allow pass-through of higher fuel costs, while officials review allocations. Protests subsided after talks in Washington, though discontent persists.
