Democrats urge belt tightening to fund missiles
Washington officials report influential Democrats called for military belt tightening to provide added missile funds within a balanced budget. President Eisenhower aims for balance as Sen. Knowland says there is hope for a budget plan. Congress may renew tax rates but no final spending figure yet. The administration projects around 71.8 billion outlays, recently raised to 72 billion. Senator Russell supports balancing goals but warns some defense cuts may be needed to cover two billion in missile and defense costs.
