Forty called for Dec 10 in selective service lottery

Local Board No 2 announces a draft screening on December 10 sending Washington county youths to Baltimore for physical examinations. Those who pass may face induction soon. Draft board adds two youths for final exam

Two more youths were ordered by Draft Board No. 3 to report for final physical examinations in Baltimore on December 10, joining 25 others scheduled the same day. Names include Walter Stebl Jr and J Mathew RicManus. Separately Raymond F P Bachtel of Millstone reported an attack at Western Maryland station by two unidentified white men. he was beaten and could only give a brief description.

Pope Awards Pius XI Prize To Harlow Shapely

At the Vatican during the inauguration of the Pontifical Academy of Science new academic year in Rome the Pope announced that Professor Harlow Shapely director of Harvard Observatory in Cambridge has been assigned the Pius XI prize for astronomy. Shapley has led the Harvard University Observatory since 1921.
