The Wolfhounds, a rugged unit in Korea, earned the nickname fire brigade after repeatedly halting North Korean drives near Taajin and Chindong. Leaders credit disciplined battalion and platoon command, plus skilled riflemen, artillery, medics, and support teams, while honoring fallen heroes and praising surviving comrades.

Red Koreans Pay Heavily

fierce fighting across Korea as both sides attacked and counterattacked. In the Masaport area the South Korean harbor Masaport shifted hands for the seventh time in two weeks as the U S 25th Infantry Division repelled a mountain assault. North of there Reds probed the Naktong River with small boat crossings repulsed and riverine artillery targeting enemy boats. Air Force strikes damaged or destroyed multiple tanks, trucks, and materiel as combat raged along the frontline.

27Year-Old Boarder Charged in Family Slayings and Fire

East Greenwich police chief said 27-year-old Edwin H. Reynolds would be charged with murder and arson for the killing of Fred J. Dusza and his family. Reynolds reportedly bludgeoned Dusza, strangled the wife and children, then set the home ablaze to cover up the crime. The five victims were Dusza, Beatrice Dusza, Beatrice's unborn child, and their three daughters. The dog led authorities to Reynolds at his estranged wife’s quonset home. he was arrested there after an autopsy confirmed four strangulation killings.

Accident Cases At Washington County Hospital

The emergency room treated several injuries yesterday. Albert Shank aged 6 from Greencastle Route One cut his leg with a manure beater. Richard D Shater 13 from Frederick foot bitten by an insect. John A Coletta of East Lansdown Pa cut in the forehead by a swing. Connie Cook 2 of Virginia Avenue fell from a bicycle and cut her chin. All were treated and discharged.

School Meetings To Begin Today

A series of school reopening meetings starts today with cafeteria staff at Hagerstown High. Bus drivers, principals, and new teachers join sessions through Friday, as 13,000 pupils and 500 teachers prepare for the 1950 51 year in Washington County.

Boonsboro Elementary building set for partial opening next week

Naval Reservists may apply for U S Naval Academy appointments. Eligible members of the Volunteer and Organized Naval Reserve must submit applications before September 30, 1950. The Secretary of the Navy may appoint 160 midshipmen yearly from Naval and Marine Corps Reserve enlisted personnel. Some reservists ordered to active duty may be assigned to the Naval School and College Preparatory. Provisions exclude those already on active duty in the Naval Reserve program.
