William J. O'Toole, former American minister to Paraguay under Harding, died in an accident at the American Coal Cleaning Corporation plant in Gilliam near Bluefield West Virginia. He slipped from a high structure while supervising new unit construction and toppled to the ground. He was president of the coal firm.
J Edward Cochran and Co adds Egbert Purdy a veteran insurer from Baltimore to its ranks while T Turner succeeds Purdy at the General Adjustment Bureau office in Hagerstown There is no change in the company name and Purdy previously led the local General Adjustment Bureau office in Buffalo New York and before that underwrote for the Maryland Motor Car Insurance Co The report also notes churches across London observe a Peace Pact Sunday in all denominations.
New York August 27 16 people died in the Times Square subway wreck as investigators probe switch failure and human error. District Attorney Banton summoned witnesses amid indications of a second arrest to be made. Chief engineer Lancaster cited maintenance worker failures and an operator who opened the switch as the train passed. The latest death was Elizabeth Liebbold 19 of Rockaway Beach who was pierced by a wood splinter. Mrs Jennie Rockridge 56 died of a heart attack triggered by the wreck and hysteria. Ninety nine injured with twenty one still hospitalized two in serious condition.

Edwin C Schreyer and Clarence Clark departed at noon for a year long journey starting in California with plans to reach Australia. They will detour to Ma Juana Mexico San Francisco then Kuwait Argentina Cape Horn South Africa and finally Australia. Clark plans to sketch scenes and events along the way.
William Wild Bill Minnick, noted Wilmington motorcycle racer, was seriously hurt yesterday when his bike left the Carrollville track and crashed through a fence. Three spectators were seriously injured as riders failed to control near a turn.

Senator Blair Lee will speak at a Democratic rally and banquet at the YMCA in Hagerstown on Tuesday September 11. The event marks the start of Maryland's Democratic campaign with speakers Governor Albert C. Ritchie United States Senator William Cabell Bruce and David J. Lewis. Emory L. Coblentz of Frederick will be toastmaster. Plans include changing the Junior Democratic Club age limit to admit voting age members and final action will be taken at the dinner.

Two masked men stopped George Hanekamp, driver for Merchants Apron & Towel Co., near Sideling Hill west of Hancock at about 4 am. They demanded money, took about $4.80 and Hanekamp’s eyeglasses, then fled as Constable Charles Barnhart investigated from Hancock. Authorities have clues expected to yield arrests soon.
Frances Dayhoff a 14 year old from this city had a needle that she believed she swallowed years ago removed from her left arm in a bloodless operation performed by a suggestive therapeutist in Chambersburg. The needle had been in her arm five weeks and caused pain before it was extracted by massage. Dayhoff noted a greenish streak at the embedding site. The therapist performed the procedure while she visited her grandmother, Mrs. Rose John. It is a reminder that swallowed needles can migrate to different body parts and even kill if reaching the brain.
In Boston on August 27, Frances Vincent, officially ruled out of an 11 mile race from Boston Light to Carson Beach for men only, jumped into the water and finished strong. She beat all but three of the 22 male competitors, showing determination and skill.
