Severe storm spans Washington county with hail and damage
Heavy rains swept Washington county last evening with hail in Dry Run and Fairview for about 16 minutes. Crops including corn apples and peaches suffered and several windows shattered. A radio aerial on North Potomac street and a Virginia avenue transformer were damaged. First Hose fire company attended as lightning struck multiple locations near Hagerstown.

A heat wave peaked at 93 degrees at the Chewsville weather station under D Oswald. Overnight rain totaled 1.02 inches, pushing monthly rainfall to 4.49 inches, far above the 3.69 inch average. Hagerstown saw sheets of rain with western sectors flooded, while Hancock, Boonsboro, Smithsburg, Sharpsburg and Williamsport reported varying showers and some hail in Boonsboro. Seven Escape In Car Crash Near Frederick Plant
An automobile left the Frederick pike near the city disposal plant last night around 9 o'clock and crashed into a telegraph pole. Seven occupants escaped injury, with four in the front and three in the rear. Driver Lewis A. Bingaman of Greencastle attributed the blowout to a left front tire. The front wheel rim dug into the ground about 75 feet before the car struck and snapped the pole. Other occupants included Elden Davis of Waynesboro, Omer Etter of Hagerstown, Jerry Hellman of Greencastle, and Fran.

Parked Cars Hit By Indiana Truck
A truck operated by M Shull of Fort Wayne Indiana struck and damaged two parked cars at Washington and Winter streets yesterday around 4 PM. Work On Road Starts Sept 1 In Washington County
Homer E. Tabler chairman of the State Road Commission announced that construction on the new highway section between Huyetts Cross Road and Conococheague Creek in Washington County will begin September 1. The contract was let May 18 but start was delayed by rights of way. The new road will connect with a new bridge across the creek and replace the current curved, dip-filled route.
