Boonsboro Opens Centennial Celebration With Band and Speech
The Boonsboro event marks the Washington bicentennial commemoration begun by descendants of the men who built the first monument to Washington in the United States. State Senator William D. Byron of Williamsport will speak about the monument’s history, noting the vine covered ruins atop South Mountain. A concert by the Boonsboro band and a carnival program follow, drawing thousands to the site.

Boonsboro Celebration Reconstructs Historic Memorial

The Lions Club plans to place an American flag over ruins during a pageant Father of His Country features 1800s costumes and colonial dances. The Ridgely property at 221 23 West Howard Street sold in front of the Court House to Miss Annie Bostetter for 4000 dollars. Gol Dallas Ward was the auctioneer. The Osborne property at Smithsburg including a large 11 room house sold for 4000 dollars by J C Snyder. Snyder also sold the Funk farm of 100 acres in Chewsville district for 49 dollars per acre and a 42 acre adjoining farm for 1810 dollars. The Sweeney property at Sharpsburg brought 750 dollars.

Bids Opened for Maryland Bridges Under New Wage Rules
The Mullan Construction Company submitted the lowest bid of 12461.50 for a bridge over the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal at Hancock. Bids for three other bridges, two jetties and 3.4 miles of rail construction were opened at the State Roads Commission in Baltimore. New wage limits require skilled labor on Eastern Shore and Western Shore to start at 55 cents per hour with increases, higher rates for semi skilled and skilled labor, a ten hour workday, and Maryland resident laborers only.
