Peace plan rejected by Aluminum Company of America
Pittsburg August 23 The Aluminum Company of America rejected a five point labor peace proposal from the Department of Labor aimed at arbitration of disputes that have left 8500 workers idle. Roy Hunt says a universal wage scale and union dues checkoff are not proper for arbitration while the firm supports collective bargaining and would reemploy workers where possible. Picket lines remain at six plants and payroll for the striking workers averages about 1 million dollars per month.

Pilot J S Graf Killed in Atlantic Plane Crash Near Norfolk
Norfolk, Va Aug 23 Lieutenant J G J S Graf of WS-2B Squadron aboard the aircraft carrier Saratoga perished when a two seater scouting plane crashed into the Atlantic about 24 miles off the Virginia coast. Chief Radioman Kelly survived after being with him in the wreckage and swimming to the surface.

Brewery Site Is Purchased In Hagerstown
The Hagerstown Brewing Company bought the cold storage plant of the Hagerstown Ice Company at McPherson and Franklin streets. A deed filed in the courthouse yesterday notes no stated consideration. The facility includes a large toll storage plant with Western Maryland frontage at Foundry Street, adjoining the Federal Milling Co. plant. Plans for operation are advancing rapidly and the site already has a modern cold storage setup.
