State to Build 2 Mile Link From Rt 64 To Rt 92

The Maryland State Roads Commission plans to start a two mile highway link this year to cut the distance between Hagerstown and Fort Ritchie. Bid advertisements are expected in September for a route east of the Western Maryland Railway, near the old Masters farm, on City of Hagerstown land near Edgemont Reservoir. The city will provide about 17 acres, and heavier water mains will be installed to support the new fill. Work may begin within the next month or two and continue through winter.

River Theft Cases Probed by Sheriff Officers

Sheriff officers investigated thefts from boats on the Potomac. A Moutain Lock vessel owned by Peter Smeak had fishing gear valued at 50 dollars stolen, including three rods reels and a gas tank. In June about 200 dollars of equipment vanished from the same Smeak boat. Smeak resides in Westminster. Clarence Bussard reported a basement screen cut in an attempted entry at 1013 Salem Avenue.

Man 63 Held On Ten Bad Check Charges

A 63 year old man, Paul Gunn, was held for Circuit Court action today on ten charges of issuing bad checks. Bail set at 1500. Gunn, formerly of 900 block Potomac Ave, was arrested in Frederick by Deputy Sheriff Howard Roby on three warrants. He cited destitution and inability to hire an attorney and requested court-appointed counsel. he also sought medical treatment for chest congestion and possible tuberculosis.
