Miss Gardner Wins National History Essay Prize

Mary B. Gardner of St Marys High School won the National prize in the Ladies Auxiliary Ancient Order of Hibernians Irish history essay contest. The high school topic was A New Chapter In Irish History about the Dublin Eucharistic Congress. One hundred twenty one essays came from Maryland schools and over a thousand nationally.

Watermelon Party Held by Beaver Creek Church Group

A Winners' Class watermelon party occurred last Wednesday evening in Harry Grossnickle meadow near Maple Ville. Meridian Club backs NRA plan at regular meeting

At a Meridian Club gathering in Mrs. Wagner's garden Irvin Circle the group discussed the National Recovery Act and aligned with the President's program. Dr Victor D Miller cited NRA addresses, stressing women's role in the recovery effort and urging support for compliant merchants. The club pledged cooperation and noted a two week funded fresh air kiddies project. Next month marks the club's twelfth birthday with a party to be announced.

Scouts Report Big Trip To Century of Progress Exposition

Washington county Boy Scouts discussed their Century of Progress trip during a Court of Honor meeting in St. John s Auditorium. Speakers included Homer Miller Elmer Rouzer Fred Entler Jack Lowman Howard Johnson Wilson Sparow and William Layman. Awards were given for star life merit and first class ranks with numerous scouts named. The Mary and Martha class Trinity Chapel held a Row s Park outing with 25 attendees and a park supper.

Large Reunion Held At Park

The eighteenth annual Stockslager family reunion drew a large crowd at City Park on Thursday with a bountiful dinner and an entertainment program. Officers, gifts to the oldest members, and four deaths four marriages and five births reported. A separate birthday surprise party honored Mrs Irene Hann at 132 John Street with games, dancing, gifts, and refreshments.

Musical to Be Given at Summit musical program

A church musicale at Summit Blue Ridge Summit Pa Tuesday evening August 22 at 8 15 features a choir led event with piano voice and violin. Fire damages Roosevelt School in Salinas after furnace short

A mouse short circuited an electrically controlled furnace switch causing a blaze at Roosevelt School in Salinas California. The fire caused several hundred dollars in damage and required response from local fire crews.

Mrs Charles Dysert hosted the Precious Stone Bowling League gathering at her Conococheague clubhouse last night with decorated porches and yard.
