U S planes pressed air raids against North Vietnam near the DMZ as B52s and carrier jets conducted strikes. Reports say 172 missions by fighter bombers plus naval bombardment from the destroyer Du Pont and other ships, with engagements near Saigon and Thanh Hoa.
Pentagon officials study forming a new division to absorb 15 000 to 50 000 additional troops authorized by President Johnson for the war. Proposed bases include Ft Campbell Kentucky and Ft Lewis Washington with a plan to pull about 34 000 soldiers to Vietnam by mid 1968, including active duty Air Force and Navy units aiding the effort.

AP reports at South Weymouth Naval Air Station three 60 tone beams forming a hangar under construction collapsed. Navy personnel and police began digging out trapped workers.
