Cras hsuits discussed after counsel conference in Md
In Rockville Maryland on August 17 the status of 15 suits filed by Montgomery County against the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad over the Williamsport school bus crash was not changed after a lengthy conference between railroad and county counsel. The suits allege violations of a 23 year old statute requiring a watchman at the grade crossing from 6 a m to midnight. Fourteen children were killed in the April crash when a speeding train struck the bus. Attorneys debated the law's constitutionality with no second meeting announced.

Struck by auto injures local resident on Middleburg Pike
C B Baker aged 67 was struck by an automobile driven by Joseph McCalin Crockett of Fountain Head Heights on the Middleburg Pike near Northern Avenue last night. He sustained cuts to the head and hands, received treatment at the hospital, and was returned to his home on the Middleburg Pike. Patrolmen Saylor and Britcher investigated the accident.

Arrest Made in Cumberland Stabbing Near Fairgrounds
County officers arrested Marshall Edwards of Leesburg Virginia on a charge of stabbing Walter Cooper at the Fairgrounds near Baltimore. Cooper, also colored, was wounded in the right shoulder after a fight and taken to a local hospital.

Infantile paralysis cases rise in Maryland counties
In Baltimore area two new infantile paralysis cases were reported today, one in Eastport and one in Talbot county, bringing the statewide total to 18 since January 1. The annual total for 1934 also stands at 18. Allegany County Commissioners approved selling the former Western Maryland Hospital in Cumberland to Dora Bucklew for 20,500 dollars, to be remodeled into an apartment and rooming house for tourists.

AAA Not to Change Goal Says Wallace
Secretary Wallace insisted the AAA has not and will not alter its objective to provide normal supply for American consumers and avoid exporting surplus. He described a 5 percent wheat acreage reduction for next year as not an about-face, noting July crop losses from black rust and heat. He stressed weather can affect farm planning and urged avoiding production of unmarketable goods. He also minimized hog price concerns, saying hog prices are not excessively high. Rev M J Brougher will return to Greensburg for evangelistic services at the Church of the Brethren on East Washington and Mulberry streets this fall, recalling his successful January 1954 meeting. Funeral services were held for Mrs Nettie Britton May of Shepherdstown who died at 74 less than a week after her second marriage to W C May. her first husband William H Vanmeter died in 1919.

A two day ministerial and Sunday School conference of the Middle District of Maryland Church of the Brethren will be held at Manor Church on Wednesday and Thursday August 21 and 22.
