Eugene R. Black yesterday resigned as governor of the Federal Reserve Board and took a new post as interpreter between banks and government. President Roosevelt accepted the resignation and praised the move to an important new task. Black returns to his Atlanta Reserve post.
Black will attempt to muster the strength of the financial system behind the movement for industrial recovery.
Young men are urged to attend at the post office building on Monday August 20 for Navy enlistment information. A recruiting representative from Martinsburg West Virginia will be present to explain opportunities with the U S Navy.
Douglas Fairbanks reached New York on the liner Rex and declined to discuss a possible reconciliation with Mary Pickford or any other matters. He said his private life is his own and would not comment on reports from Joseph M. Schenck or his engagement to Merle Oberon.

Fire yesterday destroyed three barns near Frederick Maryland with losses estimated between 19000 and 23000 dollars. Highlights included talks on scientific temperance education, a résumé of alcohol education materials, poems, musical selections, and two playlets addressing the dangers of alcohol. About 35 members and guests attended.
Waldo Newcomer’s will, filed in Orphans Court, leaves about 525000 to his three children equally. He also leaves 15000 to his secretary George W. Williams 1000 to his cook Emilia Bauer and 100 to a maid Ellen Johnson. Benjamin F. Newcomer and the Safe Deposit and Trust Company are named co executors.
M. M. Tawney of Harrisburg elected president of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemen Association for the coming year. Office holders include C. E. Auld vice president, Lee M. Lamke second vice president, Paul M. Funk secretary, G. L. Jacobs treasurer, Rev. B. F. Billboard chaplain, Roland R. Snyder delegate to the State convention, with Harrisburg and Martinsburg represented at the officers meeting in Waynesboro. Harrisburg chosen as next year’s convention site.
Word has been received that Hiram Hall formerly of this city and son in law of Delegate Ernest W. Miller has been admitted to practice in the Superior Court. Hall served as playground director here about twelve years ago.
Ida M. Rickenbrode, discharged as a policewoman on July 14, filed a $50,000 slander suit against Mayor William N. McNair in Pittsburgh on August 16.
