Surviving relatives include spouses, children, stepchildren, and siblings spread across Hagerstown Weagerstown Waynesboro and Kansas City. Funeral plans name Grace EUB Church Rose Hill Cemetery and Rest Haven with services Monday or Tuesday as listed.
John Emmett Green 71 of Lime Kiln Frederick Co died at 8:30 pm Thursday. Survived by wife Neffile M Spring Green five sons Paul D Frederick Earl M Union Bridge Malph P Denver Colo Rowland W Woodbine one daughter Florence McBride Frederick and numerous grandchildren two sisters and two stepsons with many stepdaughters listed. Funeral 2 pm Monday Richison Funeral Home Frederick burial United Brethren Cemetery. Also Canwell F Olt 60 Jefferson died after years illness son of late Thomas L and Revie Medler Olt member St Pauls Lutheran Church. Survived by wife Virginie Lapole two sons Richard F Wayne Jefferson Pa daughter Fred Kirkpatrick Waynesboro Pa four brothers and three sisters five grandchildren. Funeral 10:30 am Monday Etchison Funeral Home Frederick. Also William Luther Fink 80 Ranson died Thursday night at Charles Town General Hospital after two months illness. Former telegraph operator for Norfolk & Western Railroad long career. Survived by wife Lena Stoneburger Fink and several children and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements at East End Funeral Home Boonsboro. Also numerous notices for local residents with services planned at Mt. Hebron and other area cemeteries.
A police report error corrects yesterday’s accident account on Washington Street. Leroy G Reese of Williamsport was not in the left lane and did not strike a Potomac Edison truck. The Edison truck swerved, hitting the Reese auto in the rear after moving from its lane.

New York AP: State Department tentatively withdraws passports of 84 U S youths who visited Cuba defying the ban. On return to Kennedy Airport three or four travelers were summoned to appear Sept 3 before HUAC. Immigration chief McConarty said passports stamped for admission, not revoked.
Rome AP reports Palmiro Togliatti, 71, founder of Italy's Communist party, suffered a stroke in the Soviet Union. The crisis tests the party's succession plan as leaders debate poststroke fate and power transfer.
At the Great Hagerstown Fair on Friday night Democrats and Republicans manned booths in Exhibition Hall. Alan Charlock a student of Royce Hansen at American University played banjo for the Democrats while Joseph Tydings campaigned for the U S Senate. Other figures included David Scull Republican for Congressman at Large and Royce Hanson Democrat for Sixth District. Opponents Beall Sickles and Mathias were in Washington. The scene mixed humor and policy with banjo vs tape players as both sides handed out campaign items and a variety of munchable parodies. Hanson brought his two sons Brooks and Mark to enjoy Children’s Day.
Youthpower committee chairman Noah Kefauger announces a Maryland start for the fifth year with a meeting in Baltimore to educate leaders and youth groups about food careers. Farm Bureau coordinates activities, and a state conference in early March will select delegates for the National Youthpower Congress in Chicago. Washington County chair is Mrs. Charles Stiles, Boonsboro, Md.
The House passed a bill expanding National Defense Education Act programs to widen student loan funds and extend federal grants to districts. The act remains in effect until June 30 2057, building on the 1958 statute enacted after Sputnik to boost science and math teaching.
The Army reports Harry A. Lee Jr. went AWOL at a sprawling military post after letters flagged his absence. His father, Harry A. Lee Sr. of Alexandria, Louisiana, sought embassy help while officials investigated the case.
