Five Killed By Blast On Navy Vessel
A Navy mine sweeper, the U S S Exultant, suffered a blast and fire in the engine room about 70 miles off Savannah, killing five crewmen and disabling the 170 foot ship. The vessel, en route from Charleston to Miami, was towed to Savannah after aid from nearby ships. Names of the dead were withheld pending next of kin notification.

Western Maryland lays welded rail sections across miles
The Western Maryland Railway installs 1440 foot welded rail blocks between Big Pool and Williamsport, requiring 33 flat cars.
