Legion Convention Plans Advance At Maryland Chapter
Plans for the Maryland American Legion convention to be held August 28 24 26 and 21 are moving ahead. John R Teney is general chair man with Howard F Mowen and Charles F Mobley as vice chairs and L Stine as conventions secretary. Committees include Headquarters Parade Military Pageant Banquet and Dance Registration Hotel and Housing Finance Publicity Transportation Decorating and Drum Corps Competition. Police were ordered to clear St Louis streets after trucks and cars were abandoned.

Increase Shown In Employment in Baltimore Area
Maryland labor officials report that Baltimore area factory employment rose 9.7 percent for the month ending July 15 while factory payrolls climbed 14.1 percent. The gains extend a trend of monthly increases since March, with June 16 figures showing 1.9 percent employment and 8.5 percent payroll increases. A Baltimore relief commission statement noted fewer families receiving welfare care.

Inspection of Fire Hazards Reported in Hagerstown
Captain Clarence G. Emmert announced completion of a city fire hazard inspection in Hagerstown. Fifty three notices ordered property owners to correct hazards or allow the city to remove them at the owner's expense within four hours. Police and fire department representatives conducted the inspections.

Lions Club Convention Report From St Louis Meeting
Dr. Eb Litto, past president of the local Lions Club, reported on the International Lions convention in St Louis held in July. About 794 Lions registered plus guests. 109 new clubs formed. New York district led with 15 new clubs. San Antonio had the largest gifts with 103 new members. 9,202 active clubs worldwide. over 3,000 clubs with 100 percent attendance. Delegates toured the Anheuser Busch plant. Litto also visited the Century of Progress in Chicago. Charles W Hoffman urged members to aid the NRA recovery effort by checking local employers’ code compliance and hiring practices since the recovery act.
