Clear Spring Legion Installs New Commander Joseph C Herbert Post

Ellis T. Cline was installed as commander of Joseph C. Herbert Post 222 American Legion in ceremonies at the post home in Clear Spring last night. He succeeds Paw Yeakle, with John W. Sloan leading the installation as new department commander. Other post officers named include John D. Griffin, John C. Brewer, Geneva Krantz, Helen Cushwa, John Downs, George Snyder, Clark Gahel, Clarence Baker, John Roger, Roy Myers, and Paul Yeakle on the executive committee. Sloan praised the post’s record and urged growth in membership, paying tribute to Leroy Metz for his leadership. Guests included Metz, John Corby, Charles A. Needy, and Fred Hohrer.

Boy Finds 55 Dollars Locates Honest Owner

Gary Hartle a 13 year old of South Potomac Street Extended was riding on Kenly Avenue when he found a wad of money on the pavement. The roll held five ten dollar bills and a five dollar note. He sought the owner by canvassing Kenly Avenue homes and left word at the Small residence. Mrs Small later called to claim the money and rewarded Gary with a five dollar bill for his honesty.

Boy 12 Held On Rape Charge In Baltimore

Police planned to obtain juvenile petitions against a 12 year old identified by two girls as their attacker. One girl was raped as she and another were threatened with a knife in a woods near their northeast Baltimore home. The arrest followed the girls' identification as the boy walked along a street. A doctor confirmed one rape and officers expected Juvenile Court action by Monday.

Tax Refunds Due Shortly in Maryland

Maryland tax officials say refunds should arrive by email within two weeks. About 4,000 refunds are processed daily as 50,000 to 60,000 remain to be mailed. The comptroller's office has handled around 780,000 returns this year and mailed refunds to roughly 420,000 individuals. Several thousand checks totaling over $12,000 were returned to the office due to forwarding issues.
