After 18 and a half years, Sergeant John J Chop departs the United States Army recruiting station in Hagerstown. He recruited about 3,250 young men, including 300 sets of brothers, and organized local Drum Corps. He served in World War I campaigns and with the U S Army of Occupation in Germany, later serving in Russia before returning home.
