Fed Reserve reports March upswing in industry despite strikes
The Federal Reserve Board on Sunday said in March industry continued its upswing with payrolls rising to 101.02 percent of the 1923-25 average and employment up 2 percent to the 101 level. Industrial production climbed 2 percent over February while output in minerals, especially coal, surged and steel mills operated over 90 percent capacity in early April.

Lumber and non ferrous metals output and consumption grew, woolen mills and shoe factories stayed at high pre views levels, and mail order sales rose strongly while department store gains lagged Easter timing. Reserve data show excess bank reserves rising from 1.27 billion to 1.59 billion dollars as treasury disbursements and Fed purchases push liquidity. A May 1 policy move will require 16 23 percent of bank reserves be held, locking about 700 million of excess reserves.

Several Slight Injuries From Late Night Accident

Clem Sohn known as the American bird man died in Vincennes France when his parachute failed to deploy after leaping from a plane at 6000 feet before a 30000 strong crowd at air races. He had toured aviation carnivals in the United States and abroad.

Principal Accused of Paddling Boy
Burkittsville school principal J. Christian Skidmore faces a People’s Court hearing in Frederick on assault and battery after admitting four paddle blows to 10 year old Charles E. Younkins. Skidmore says punishment was a last resort and equal to that given to other youths. Father Elmer C. Younkins, a railroad worker, swore out the arrest warrant.

Arrested at Dargan dance hall to face hearing
Luther Ewings was arrested Saturday night by Sheriff's officers on a charge of being drunk and dis orderly as the result of a disturbance at Mrs. Lillie Ingram's dance hall in Dargan. He will be given a hearing Wednesday before Justice Mose in Sharpsburg.

Portage of Tragedy in Portsmouth Affects Owens Family
In Portsmouth Ohio Sheriff and coroner seek motive after John Owens 22 shot and killed his wife Sarah White Owens 23 and her mother Catherine White 54 and uncle Chester White 20 before dying by poisoning. Father Benjamin White 54 and neighbor Harry Hughes 17 were injured. Janet Marie Owens 3 was unharmed. Police found a note to Thelma Kirker 24. The Owenses lived with the Whites since the Ohio river flood damaged their home.
