City Plans for Clean-Up Week in Hagerstown
Hagerstown will host its annual sweeping and cleaning campaign in May with plans presented to the Chamber of Commerce and endorsed by the Civic League. Mrs. James Findlay and Mrs. 5S George White attended the meeting as sponsors. The exact Clean Up Week date is not set and may align with Fire Prevention Week to cover both efforts.

Campaign observances urge cleaning to aid fire safety
Campaigns could be observed this week as an elaborate tree planting exercise urged the public to clear rubbish that might feed Samuel Speck who recently moved to New Jersey and is spending several days in the home of his sister Mrs Emmett Sheely on East Baltimore street. The W E C Club was entertained this evening at the home of the Misses Strocks on East Baltimore street.

Thompson receives one year in federal pen for aiding escape
Charles N. Thompson former assistant superintendent at Leavenworth Shoe Factory pleaded guilty in federal court to helping John P. Carroll escape. He was sentenced to one year in jail. Carroll promised him a share of $109,000 loot. Carroll was placed in a packing box delivered to Thompson’s room at Leavenworth and remains at large.
