The state plans a warm welcome for William M. Jardine, Secretary of Agriculture, as he returns from Washington to his Manhattan hometown on May 9. The piece notes local pride and the acclaim awaiting him, reflecting on his decision to join the Cabinet and the notable ties to Kansas.
The Kansas State board granted six months leave to Jardine, president of the Kansas Agriculture College, allowing his wife and three children to occupy the home at ent Tree while students finish the term. Five people were killed when their car was struck by a train near Anderson Indiana, with another passenger seriously injured. Names listed include Mary Cotter age 25 and Ralph Cotter, driver, with two other children among the victims. the crash occurred a few miles from the city on April 18.
JUBCULPORE India April 20 The sacrifier of a girl to the goddess Kall was revealed in a trial. The favorite son of a former government employee was believed possessed by an evil spirit. Life blood from the victim was used in a ritual to save the boy, but he died after the sacrifice and the girl was starved and left in the cold near the sacred site.
A boy dies from exposure and the father and two brothers of the boy are sentenced to death. A woman relative receives life imprisonment.
Washington County Farm Bureau held a regular monthly meeting at the Y M C A with Simon L Downey presiding. Milton D Moora reported on past year work and proposed plans for the year ahead. The group invited the State Horticultural Society to hold this summer’s meeting in Washington County, a continuation of last summer’s event. Mamie Clopper of this city narrowly escaped injury when her car was struck by a machine near the Washington crossing of the Pennsylvania Railroad Saturday afternoon. The other vehicle’s driver, a man named Van Cat Hygles, failed to stop and police are seeking him.
