Gus Smith a 60 year old bank janitor was knocked unconscious and robbed of his keys. Ernest Butterfield a jeweler next door said one robber resembled John Dillinger. The raid followed Dillinger’s reputed pattern of bank seizures as police linked prior robberies in Warsaw Indiana and rumors of a Shreveport Washington state engagement.
