About 1750 Washington County farmers who market milk through the Farmers Protective Association plant at Greencastle will gain under the new Milk Control Board price effective immediately. The Hershey company will buy the plant’s milk, at 1.70 for 3.5 percent and 1.99 for 4 percent milk, replacing the old 1.60 per pound rate. The plant ships 2.4 million gallons daily to Hershey, and the revised price is expected to prompt shifts as some local dealers may pay less to farmers.

Negro Pickett Shot Down in Alabama Mine Strike
A black picket was killed this morning during a demonstration at the Red Diamond mine in Lemo s Alabama amid a strike call. In Birmingham an order mobilized 75 Alabama National Guardsmen to Edgewater, 18 miles from the city, where about 1,200 miners are on holiday. Troops were sent after reports of a failed attempt to destroy water mains. Edgewater and three other mines were shut down by Tennessee Coal, Iron and Railroad Company. The camp near Edgewater is largely black and a march with clubs occurred last Saturday to push a shutdown.

Four Killed in Crash of Large Plane Near Lewisville
Four people died when a cabin plane crashed nine miles northwest of Lewisville Texas after leaving Love Field Dallas. Negro Suspect Puts Up Battle in Baltimore

More Relief Workers Than Under CWA
Baltimore April 38 A review of Maryland state emergency relief records shows about 190 more people on Federal emergency jobs today than in the last week of the Civil Works Administration. Last Friday 363 work projects provided jobs for 1 749 men, nearly all at work now. In all, 3 947 men and women are on civil works jobs, including ongoing Federal projects, with a total of 22 498 employed today compared with 20 754 on CWA jobs in late March. Relief officials note workers earn less per week under the relief payroll, often receiving just enough to meet their relief budgets. State Relief Engineer Francis Dryden is weighing further proposals, including 30 from Baltimore.

Kingfisher Preys on Goldfish at Annapolis Yard
