Secretary of State Stimson said the United States would not use force to protect Americans inland in Nicaragua from insurgents. Nine Americans were killed last week by bandits as naval forces positioned at coastal ports and a cruiser moved toward Bluefields. The U S plans to evacuate Marines from eastern Nicaragua while training the National Guard to assume peacekeeping duties by early 1933.

Local Fiddler Finishes Second in Brunswick Contest
Roy W. Long of Summit avenue won second prize in a fiddler contest by the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad at Brunswick last night. Forty fiddlers from Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania entered. C. V. Lake of Staunton captured first. Long, the city’s only fiddler in the event, leads a string orchestra and has appeared at numerous local engagements. He performed on Station WRC in Washington and is slated for May at the Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester.

Many Forest Fires Burn in New Jersey
Twenty one wildfires raged across New Jersey as state police and volunteers battled blazes. An occupied house burned and three structures were damaged. Reports from Bar Zaintown volunteers say armed men threatened crews while fighting a brush fire. Marines at Lakehurst Naval Air Station stood by for orders as a 500 acre timberland fire burned near the station and Way Side district fire rapidly spread northward from near Asbury Park to cover about eight square miles. Eighty volunteers helped contain the spread.

Largest Bank Vault On Way To Japan
The world’s largest bank vault built in York Pennsylvania is being shipped to Japan. The second shipment has arrived in Baltimore, loaded onto a freighter to the Orient. It is quake proof and fire burglar resistant for installation in the Bank of Japan. Fifty one trucks moved the second shipment from York to Baltimore. The fleet will depart Thursday on the same steamer as the first shipment.

Prisoner work program aims to train inmates in farming and dairying
Initial group of prisoners begins work at a Washington county site as part of a plan to teach farming and dairying to prepare inmates for life after release.
