Cambridge Armory hosts the second monthly surplus food distribution for Dorchester County with about four tons planned for today and Friday. Brig Gen George M Gelston notes nearly four tons aided 438 households totaling 1711 people in last month’s initial distribution. In White Plains New York, Fred S Child 71, former Chase Manhattan Bank vice president, died Tuesday after a brief illness.
The U S Corps of Engineers opened an 80000 dollar two year study of Maryland coast beach erosion with a public hearing. Ocean City Mayor Hugh Cropper urged erecting a jetty near 13th street to rebuild beaches 100 to 20 blocks north. Berlin engineer Robert Walker proposed north of the inlet sand pumping under the inlet and jetty and dumping stockpiled sand along the water line. About 60 people attended the hearing.
