Patton’s Third Army nears the Czech border as Hof falls and Neurnberg area tightens. Seventh Army and French forces push toward key German hubs, with many cities captured or surrounded including Wuppertal Hagen Bayreuth Bamberg Leuna and Leipzig. British and Polish actions widen pockets toward the North Sea and Prague looms within reach.
British forces crossed the Aller and pressed toward Hamburg while Third Army neared Plauen near the Czechoslovak border. Nazi leaders including Papen and von Mackensen reportedly captured as Hell on Wheels troops suffered retreats. Elbe front tightens with Dresden and Berlin looming, Panzer Lehr surrenders to 99th Division. First Army total prisoners surpassed 560 thousand since D-Day.
More than 1,300 American heavy bombers attacked German pockets around Bordeaux, with 460,000 gallons of new fire bombs dropped in ground installations. The device, called Hitler's hotfoot, uses jellylike fuel in aldo tanks with detonators to splash a 60 yard area and target trenches, machine gun nests, guns and pillboxes.

Flood conditions threaten Missouri and Arkansas as waters rise toward or beyond the 1943 flood levels. Eight people die in Oklahoma floods. Evacuations occur in Webbers Falls and along the Arkansas and Grand rivers as highways and rail lines are cut and towns inundated. Army engineers mobilize in Little Rock, with Red Cross set to help Fort Smith evacuees.
The 400 B-29s hammered Tokyo, targeting its southeastern industrial area and Kawasaki across the Tama river. Pilots reported fires visible from 150 miles away, with heavy flak and active Japanese night fighters. This marked the sixteenth raid on Tokyo since November and the second on Kawasaki. Brig. Gen. John H. Davies participated in the low level mission.
The air line reported Capt Jones has flown since 1933 with 6 500 hours. He joined PCA in 1940 as a co pilot and became a captain on November 16 1942. Mrs Jones was reported seriously ill in a hospital. The Roosevelt estate hosted a private burial for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Mackenzie King attended and laid a floral offering as West Point cadets formed a gun salute marked by a 21gun volley. Mrs Roosevelt and two children watched, then Mrs Roosevelt alone approached the grave before leaving the garden.
