Richard O Day a 26 year old New York City man is held on $250 bond after being arraigned in city court on theft charges for breaking into a YMCA desk and stealing bathing caps a bank book and other items. He was arrested Sunday by Patrolman Ray Day. Harvey Stottlemyer reported the theft of a black turkey gobbler and six chickens from rear coops on Virginia avenue overnight Saturday.

A robin builds a nest over a home meter at 300 block North Cannon Avenue delaying monthly electric readings for at least a month. Miss Elizabeth Fridinger reports the meter is unusable as the bird incubates its brood and the reader will not disturb the nest until hatchings are complete.
Federal relief in Washington county may end through the Washington County Welfare Federation after State Relief Administrator Harry Greenstein announced all relief cases in Wicomico Somerset Dorchester and Worcester counties would be closed immediately. Greenstein said the action should not cause suffering. In March $105,000 was spent in the four Eastern Shore counties as relief funds. The policy aligns with reducing relief loads and re evaluating cases eligible for future federal aid. The local Reemployment Bureau noted difficulty filling farm labor jobs.
Edward James Goodwin, 22, of East Columbia Park, Maryland, was electrocuted when an electric wire from his home fell onto the WLR&A trolley line, delivering about 3,300 volts. As he prepared for work, a radios started smoking and crackling was heard. He sent his wife and child outside, then went to the basement to shut off power. His wife and child heard a moan and found him on the floor.

In Rocky Mount North Carolina on April 16 James CL Wright aged 15 from Asheville died when a fire destroyed the poultry brooder house at Eastern Carolina Training School a state institution for delinquent boys.
Heavy showers last night and this morning plus last week’s rainfall delay fieldwork by about ten days. Observers estimate more rain than an inch, soaking the ground and keeping fields too wet to plow for at least ten days. The spring planting is delayed though the rain will help wheat and grasses.

Motorists are urged to refuse signals to halt to curb the habit.
Desperado Pi-Jimmvyo Rear, notorious convict and one of twelve escapees from camp E, was fatally shot by a guard near the Angola penitentiary during an attempted fence jump. Penitentiary Manager R. L. Himes announced the death.
Washington report details that Lawrence L. Howell drew the ace of spades three times while playing cards, calling it a bad omen. His car crashed yesterday, killing Howell and Miss Mildred Holland who died en route to a hospital. Six others injured were not seriously hurt.
Patrolman Roy Buck of Pocomoke likely owes his life to his badge, state police say. Buck was stabbed near a prisoner at the Pocomoke jail Saturday night but remains improving at Peninsula General Hospital. Ser gt W V Hunter noted the knife struck Buck’s badge pinned over the heart and glanced off. Buck’s wound is not serious.
Philadelphia physicians report 11 year old twin sisters Katherine and Margaret Maguire show severe muscle rigidity from a rare ossification malady caused by calcium deposits in the blood. Doctors fear if it reaches a vital spot the condition could be fatal though their father disputes the diagnosis, attributing symptoms to arthritis.

Police in Shreveport Louisiana sought a pleasing man about fifty for the murder of 15 year old Mae Griffin. Her body was found in woods near West Shreveport with a slashed throat and torn dress. Coroner Dr Willis Butler said evidence indicated a criminal assault and she had been dead two to three days.

Lloyd Stevens of Williamsport, repeatedly in court over the past year, jailed in default of $1000 bond after arraignment before a Chambersburg magistrate on a charge of stealing his brother Enmmett E. Stevens automobile. He is also charged with chicken theft in Franklin County. hard cases slated for trial at the county term. Earlier in March he was brought to Chambersburg from the local jail on requisition papers.
