Crumbling Moose River gold mine walls trap three officials 141 feet underground as rescue crews face a second cave in. Experts say only a new shaft and a distant crane can reach them, with hopes tied to a week underground without food or water and a crane arriving from Halifax.

Mrs Knaub lay dead in the kitchen with a shattered head. a shotgun was found nearby.
In Hodos, Bihor district, Transylvania, Maria Ljinguraru, 25, gave birth to five premature babies two months early: two boys and three girls. Villagers rushed mother and infants to Oradea for care as the birth occurred without a doctor present. husband Alexander aided in delivery and mother recovering well.
William F. Bussey a Glenburnie fireman on the engine that struck a Williamsport school bus at Rockville a year ago testified before the Frederick jury in the first damage suit. He said the engineer blew two long and two short blasts and that he saw the bus 1400 feet away and believed it would stop but it moved again. Bussey was an important defense witness and one of only three to take the stand.
Charles M Schwab Bethlehem Steel board chairman sailed on the liner Europa for rest in Europe as advised by his physician. The 74 year old industrialist told young men to seek happiness rather than wealth noting that riches bring little value and honest work yields peace and contentment.
County Treasurer Harry E Keedy cashes 382 old age pension checks today totaling 6839.57 dollars. The county pays 2279.86 dollars, with the rest covering other pension disbursements and administrative costs.
Six carloads of coal on a Baltimore and Ohio freight derailed yesterday at Little Capacon near Paw Paw. Main tracks were blocked for hours while a large force of men repaired flood damage and cleared wreckage.

The coins, unearthed in 1934 as they hid club memorabilia, were claimed by property owners Mrs. Elizabeth H. French and Miss Mary P. B. Findlay and heirs of Andrew J. Saulsbury. The decision ends the dispute with the youths entitled to the treasure.
In Los Angeles on April 15 a mystery blast killed Dr William Moriarity a 59 year old USC economics professor and his 54 year old wife. Harley McCoy an insurance and mining man who saw the rear seat blast told detectives the professor had asked him to drive them and produced the bomb saying look what I ve got before it exploded. The couple's companion Miss Eleanor Thons was to recover.
Liberty League bankers and industrialists, many never touching a plow, funded the anti New Deal Farmers Independent Council of America. Stanley F. Morse of Chicago testified before a Senate Committee that the council, formed a year ago in Liberty League HQ, operated from Wall Street with an office there and raised about $25,000 mostly from top bankers to disseminate anti New Deal propaganda.
In Wise North Carolina on April 15 the sixth victim of a crash died. Mrs Woodrow Tucker age 23 of Palmer Springs Virginia mother of two was killed as flames engulfed the car carrying a gar dance party. Her husband aged 24 died in the same wreck.

Administrators set a value of 34137483 today upon the late former Governor Albert C. Ritchie's estate in Baltimore. The inventory filed in Orphans Court shows securities at 294,797.81, bank cash 23,741.39, cash in house 693.58, tangible personal property 13,087.50, family home 4,500, ground rent 5,154.60, with most assets in securities.
The Board of License Commissioners for Washington county announces that authorizations for alcoholic beverage licenses for the coming year starting May 1 can now be obtained at their office. Renewal licenses may be issued fifteen days before the old expires. The Board urges licensees to apply promptly to avoid delays from last minute rush.
Albert C. Lowery of Halfway landed a 26-pound carp while fishing near Dam No 4 on Monday evening. The fish, likely swept into the canal by recent floods, weighed about 26 pounds and was found in the canal.
George Callas alias Harrisburg a Greek was arrested on a warrant for larceny of 140 dollars from Minnie Ridgeway at 190 Elm Street. He will have a hearing this afternoon before Justice C Edward Heard. Ridgeway says the money was taken from her pocketbook while riding in a car between 2 and 4 am on a trip from Smithsburg where they had been gambling. She feared for her life and did not protest. She notes another Greek, Oscar Miller, was in the car with an unknown man.
The March bulletin from the State Department of Health estimates Washington County population on July 1, 1936 at 69,403. Hagerstown is pegged at 32,566 and Cumberland at 39,834. Baltimore City and Baltimore County, Allegany, and Prince George's exceed Washington County.
Chicago reports Democratic primaries show a two to one edge over Republicans across Illinois. Gov. Horner leads Bundensen for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination with 529,043 to 517,472 as Roosevelt dominates in Cook County and Nebraska results favor Roosevelt over Borah and Knox in multiple precincts.
Lincoln April 15 Townsend plan advocate former Congressman Terry Carpenter led the Nebraska Democratic Senate race with 1,417 of 2,025 precincts reported, about 4,000 votes ahead of J C Quigley chairman of the Democratic State Committee. Quigley remained in contention while no wide turn against the Townsend plan. News also noted minimal response to a write in for Senator George W Norris and tallies for Borah Landon Knox and Hoover in presidential preference.
Workmen laying a pipe line on Sunset Avenue found a full grown pole cat at the bottom of a fifteen foot ditch. The animal was unable to climb out and sprayed liberally. Police were notified but deferred to the Street Department after learning the cat was the culprit in the ditch.

W B Shrader aged 32 was arraigned before Justice John Dumin ity court this morning on a verge of assaulting his wife and was held under 500 dollar bond for May grand jury action.
