Street Commissioners last night outlined a boiled down program to use funds likely exceeding the June levy of 145 009 for street work. Projects include Memorial Boulevard from the Sark Circle to Summit Avenue Wilson Boulevard from Pioneers to Kuhn Avenue Guilford Avenue Howard Street to WY Boulevard Corbett Street Howard Street to Wizard plus grading on Pennsylvania Avenue drainage on Sal Avenue and paving on minor cross streets citywide.
George P. Klein a 28 year old note discount clerk at stable Trust Co surrendered to State's Attorney Herbert R. O'Conor and admitted stealing nearly $12 000 of bank funds. He said the money was spent on high living. Klein married with one child and had worked at the bank over 15 years starting as a runner boy at age 15. He gained the shortage by manipulating note payments when creditors paid.
Realty sold at public auction as Auctioneers Fred M White and Joseph C Snyder sold five properties in front of the Court House yesterday afternoon. Reel's garage at Sharpsburg brought 31 200 to a Mr Kuhn. A 150 acre Grimes Station farm known as the Grimes farm sold at 16 per acre. William Householder property on South Potomac street went to Garland E Groh for 4410. Martin apartment house on Bellevue avenue sold for 5700. Beeler property on South Cannon avenue sold for 3400.
Hupmobile introduces revised price list for Century models with 76 HP Sedan at 995 dollars, Century Eight 90 HP Sedan at 1295, 100 HP Eight Sedan 1595, 133 HP Eight Sedan 1895, and 133 HP Six Custom Sedan 2295 dollars. Factory F. O. B. pricing applies for standard equipment.
Baltimore meat dealers pressed Governor Ritchie to sign a legislation allowing fresh and frozen meats to be retailed. Dr. C Hampson said health questions were not involved while Henry F Broening warned thousands of workers could lose jobs if the bill fails. A separate hearing discussed cooperatives hauling milk against truck firms. The governor approved Potomac River oyster dredging and other measures and planned more hearings before final signings Friday.
L P Baker four year old son of Earl Baker of 11 Berger Avenue was injured not seriously when struck by an automobile driven by Earl Helie Punkstown yesterday afternoon on South Potomac Street. The boy was taken to Washington County Hospital for treatment. Police report says he walked into the path of the car near the Lee Street intersection. PRAISE SERVICE: Hagerstown Church of the Brethren plans a special service on Sunday April 13 for redecorating and remodelling of the old church. Reverend A M Dixon, former pastor, will speak and the choir will provide special music.
Local tenor Floyd Sherman will give a recital in Waynesboro at the Presbyterian Church on Monday, April 20, starting at 8 o clock. He will be assisted by Colbourne Jones, promising young violinist. The event follows recent successful local appearances and Sherman holds Maryland state Atwater Kent Radio Audition honors. Tickets available from A. H. Sherman or the Hagerstown School of Music.
In a special session the mayor and council divided the $150000 bond for the new city tax collector T E Ned Seibert between Clarence Reedy and Harry Keller Reedy to receive $100000 and Keller $350000 Seibert takes office May 1 succeeding Daniel E Downin who served nine years The council also handled routine matters.
The Seminary Choir from Eastern Theological Seminary Lancaster Pa will present a program of church music at Christ's Reformed Church Thursday at eight. The 34 students are directed by Dr Harry A Sykes who has led choral groups in Lancaster Norristown and Philadelphia. The program includes Venite in A The Son of God Goes Forth to War Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones and other works with organ numbers and solo. A liberal free will offering is requested.
The Long Meadow Church of the Brethren will hold services on Wednesday April 15 at 7 30 p m with Dr E C Bixler of Blue Ridge College giving an educational address and Fraf Lewis Brumbaugh of Western Maryland College presenting The Inevitableness of Peace An all day District Conference of the Middle Maryland district begins Thursday at 5 30 a m.
At the Orphans' Home in San Mar the Board of Managers chaired by C. Harry Keller reports 57 children on March 1, 2 new admissions, 1 returned from family and 4 placed in families leaving 56 on March 31. One formerly ill boy recovered from pneumonia and returned to school. No other sickness or accidents. 32 children are under Home supervision in families. Resolutions honor the Home Auxiliary for Easter, Hays and Bros for a party, local doctors for dental service, and various donors and groups for contributions.
