Delay Advised On City Asphalt Projects Until June

Police Board Receives March Parking Violation Report
Chief William H. Peters told the Board of Street Commissioners that parking violations averaged nearly ten per day in March with 130 autos tagged for overtime parking. Major offenses included drunkenness at 32 incidents, disorderly conduct at 2, breaking and entering at 11, 37 larceny cases and three auto thefts. The report shows 62 drunkenness releases, about half of them soldiers, in addition to those tried.

Johnson Given Six-Year Term
Earl W. Johnson 26 was convicted in Garrett County Circuit Court at Oakland of larceny of an automobile and sentenced to six years in the Maryland Penitentiary. The term follows an earlier March 1942 sentence in Howard County and a prior escape from the Maryland Penal Farm. Johnson, a Bluemont Virginia native, had been sought in five states on various charges and was wounded in Cumberland after a police confrontation.
