New York April 14 Mrs Marcelle Carroll plans to join her husband Earl Carroll in Greenville South Carolina and then Atlanta en route. The second victim of the rock fall at the J. E. Baker Co. quarry near Williamson died yesterday at Waynesboro Hospital. The deceased was 76 year old Lewis Higgs. Earlier Adam Walker died a few hours after the accident on Tuesday. Former Cumberland Sheriff Peter McFarland, 45, died last night at Allegany Hospital after a brief illness. He was the brother of former Sheriff Peter C. McFarland.
Ruth Yvonne, staying with her father Dr A Leo Franklin in Cumberland, is under observation at Western Maryland Hospital. The child was suddenly struck by illness and an appendectomy was considered unlikely as her condition improves. Her mother was summoned from Hagerstown by the illness, with several doctors in consultation.
Dexter Green, who left Chicago with over $20,000 in cash and securities for Mercantile Acceptance Company, was arrested aboard a New York Central train in Albany New Jersey while bound for New York. He said he spent $80 on clothing. detectives found $304 in cash and $31,049 in securities on him.
The American Telephone and Telegraph Company report shows net income for the first quarter of 1927 at 31,737,682, up from 27,867,985 a year earlier. Earnings per share averaged 2.95 on 10,774,970 shares versus 3.02 on 9,229,884 shares in Q1 1926, with total income 63,860,000 versus 34,? across the period.
