House Budget Cutters Push Second Billion Dollar Cut
Washington House budget cutters moved toward a second billion dollar reduction as they sent the seventh annual appropriation bill to the Senate. The Commerce Department and related agencies received 653,885,080, with the total 217,827,940 below the President’s request and 69,950,076 under the current year. The House aims next at the State Department and USIA, seeking roughly 350 million dollars in new funding. All seven department bills this year, including Treasury, Post Office, Interior, Labor, Welfare, Commerce, and DC, were sharply cut but have yet to clear the Senate, which often restores parts of the House cuts.
