Union leaders reportedly willing to accept postponement of a National Labor Relations Board hearing. After a three hour meeting with officials, Fan Wagoner said progress was made on the final procedural point, signaling a possible settlement.
Informed sources report Ford presses that NLRB hearings on Rouge plant unfair labor practices be postponed until after an employee election ordered by the board. UAW CIO leaders say they planned Monday’s hearing as a forum to air grievances and sway votes at the Rouge plant, the nation’s largest factory, but the hearing is not tied to the election. About 16,000 people at the State Fair Coliseum approved Van Wagoner’s settlement plan while Ford modifications were referred to DAW CIO negotiators for a midair conference with the governor.
The Berean Class of the First Brathren Church held its regular meeting on Monday evening in April in the church Social Room. The group split into two to view the Girls Gospel Team of Eland College perform in the church auditorium before a business session led by President Mrs Gay Overman. Hostesses served refreshments to numerous members and guests including Mrs Ruth Hungate Mrs Freda Johns Mrs Louise Kittel and others.
A program of song and recitations by children at the Orphans Home at San-Mar is set for Easter Monday at 1 PM under Miss Betty Jane Garmong. Home Auxiliary members will give baskets of candy and dyed eggs to the children. The public is invited.
Officers were recently elected by the Bible School of the Boonsboro Christian Church. James Reese Jr. is elected superintendent with John Shoemaker as assistant superintendent. Evelyn Long serves as secretary with Lillian Enodhe as assistant secretary. Charles Clingan is treasurer and John Long Jr. as assistant treasurer. Mrs J T Russler is pianist with Miss Mary Gantz as assistant pianist. Departmental superintendents include Mrs Charles Clingan and Mrs Hattie Moore.
About 500 sports enthusiasts from Maryland and nearby Pennsylvania and West Virginia attended the Franklin Court auditorium banquet of the Conoco Cheague Sportsmen's Club. Speakers included Harth and Clear. Governor O'Conor and others sent regrets. Lee LeCompte was praised for 25 years as state game warden. Over 140 prizes were awarded, including a $155 shotgun or $100 in cash to Harold Kiser. Breth urged conservation, noting gains in wild ducks and the impact of federal duck stamps.
Regional wildlife officials and representatives from Washington and Cumberland counties were introduced as part of the Allegany county Wildlife Advisory Council. The event listed A P Hoffa as chairman and named several regional game wardens and Izaak Walton League leaders. London reports a severe blow to British strategy in Africa with the probable loss of three senior officers Lieut Gen Neame Lieut Gen Sir Richard Nugent O Conor and Major Gen M D Gambier Parry. The German communique claimed six generals and two colonels among about 2000 prisoners at El Mechili. O Connor was a top tactician assisting General Sir Archibald Wavell and Maitland Wilson in Wavell s offensive. Gambier Parry was a forest tank and tank Gunnery expert in the British Army.
City and county officials announced a ban on soliciting weddings at the courthouse following the conviction of Rev. Tyson T. Hardt on disorderly conduct for wedding solicitations. He was fined 25 dollars, suspended on costs and one year of good behavior.
The Rohrersville Farm Bureau Planning group met in April at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Reeder. Readings were given by Gerald Hainey. A True or False contest and discussions followed. The group discussed farm shortages and the strike situation. May meeting planned at James Smith home near Sandy Hook.
Mrs. Williams of Hammaker in Funkstown sustained a fractured leg in a fall at her home yesterday afternoon. She was transported by ambulance to Washington County Hospital for treatment.
Lynchburg Va home missionary evangelist J W West of the Appalachian Mountain Evangelizing Association will present in words and pictures the missionary work in the Appalachian Mountains on Wednesday evening April 16 at 7 30 o clock at the Boons Hora Christian Church. The public is invited.

A barn on William Walker’s farm on the West Virginia side of the Potomac River opposite Taylor's Landing burned yesterday afternoon. The cause is undetermined and it is not yet known if any livestock perished. The flames were visible for a long distance.
The annual convention of the Lutheran Women's Missionary Societies of the Western Conference will be held on Wednesday April 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev W P Ard D D will serve as pastor for the event.
