Water plant bonds approved for $260000 issue

A special meeting of the Mayor and Council passed an ordinance to issue $260000 in bonds to fund a new water plant with bonds in $1000 denominations at 4 4 percent interest. Bonds likely to sell above war value, with sales planned within two weeks to furnish funds for the Water Commission in May. The last payment on Chen is due in 1919.

C of C to Host New Jersey Group in Hagerstown

Plans to entertain about 40 Cape May County Chamber members when they arrive in Hagerstown on April 28 are being arranged by the Hagerstown Chamber entertainment committee led by Roy A. Leiter. Cape May officials will spend a night in Hagerstown. An expert from the National Board of Fire Underwriters offering to advise on the new water system was met with an unfavorable reception. The good roads meeting at the Y M C A was discussed with Governor Ritchie presenting the state program, and Dr Victor J Miller was praised for the luncheon success.

Mrs Parker To Hold A Concert At Woman's Club

Mrs Parker presents a largely numbers program at 8 p m Tuesday in the Woman's Club Auditorium for her first concert after Easter. The event, under the club's auspices, follows Lent lecture recitals and features Beethoven Schubert Brahms Mendelssohn Chopin Grieg Liszt McDowell Scott Rubenstein and Rachmaninoff. Tickets are fifty cents and selling well.

Doctor Held On Narcotic Charge In Indianapolis Probe

Federal agents said evidence gathered to arrest Dr. H. R. Spiekerman of Muncie Ind on narcotic act violations will be presented to the Federal Grand Jury convening in May. The physician's home was raided as part of the investigation and further proceedings were expected.

Chapman to hang for Connecticut officer murder

Federal authorities report Gerald Chapman, a notorious bandit, sentenced to death for the murder of a New Britain policeman. Chapman was captured at Muneie after a long pursuit, ending his notoriety and prompting a capital punishment verdict.
