Levi B. Phillips, 78, Cambridge businessman who founded Phillips Packing Company and helped establish multiple ventures, died after a lingering illness. He started packing in 1858 and later formed partnerships with his brother Miranus and W. G. Winterbottom, later creating Phillips Hardware, Phillips Can, and Phillips OIl Company. Survived by his widow, a son, two daughters, and his brother’s family.

Hancock Youth Is Given Prison Term
Fred Hann of Hancock was sentenced to one year in the House of Correction by Judge Joseph D. Mish for parole violation. He had been paroled after a Hancock school break in and was arrested Friday night after allegedly threatening his brother with a shotgun.

Pedestrian struck by car on South Potomac Street
A pedestrian, Hillary M. Weaver, 52, was hit by a southbound car near Public Square Saturday at about 10 PM. He suffered head and right hand lacerations and was taken to Washington County Hospital. The driver was Alvin R. Hetzel, 17, of Lydia, who was operating the vehicle.

Two Injured In Auto Collision At North Avenue Locust Street
