FDR Pledges Aid to Yugoslav Resistance

President Roosevelt lauded Yugoslav courage against a German invasion calling it unprovoked aggression. Yugoslav Crisis Update Tied To U S Aid Efforts

Don Lane reported efforts to follow Yugoslav government as up to six Americans were reported dead or injured on the first day amid the invasion. President Roosevelt sent a message to King Peter after Hull stated the United States aimed to send supplies to Yugoslavia to aid in the conflict.

Food Exposition Opens April 21 in Municipal Market House

The tenth annual Food Exposition of the Cumberland Valley retail grocers, sponsored by the Triangle Grocers' Association, runs April 21 to 28 at the Municipal Market House Auditorium. Major Richard Sweeney will open the show, with nightly events, demonstrations, prizes, and a broadcast each afternoon and evening. Split Legislative Session Favored to Reduce Jams

ANNAPOLIS Md April 9 A split session plan was proposed by Senator Frank J Flynn to ease last minute jams and a delayed veto. He would seek a 30 day recess within a 60 day session with a 30 day final period restricting bill introductions without four fifths consent.

Fifty four called for a year of military training

Fifty four young men from Washington County will be inducted for a year of military training starting April 15. Board No. 1 lists 31 inductees including Jennings Street Dawson and Charles Preston Cook among others, with entertainment planned for April 14 by the Alsatia Club and a related event for 40 draftees from Hagerstown on April 11 hosted by Bnai Brith at Hotel Alexander.

County to distribute 240 quail across five communities

Washington county will divide into five communities for equal distribution of 240 Bob-white quail from the State game farm Gwynbrook. Six plantings of eight birds per community will occur as they arrive around April 14. Distribution will be supervised by Deputy Game Warden Albert Crampion and Joe Himan. Birds released on farms where hunting is allowed. Communities include Hancock Clearspring Smithsburg Downsville and Keedenville. Plans also approved for three summer projects for the Washington County Wildlife Conservation Club about forty boys participate.

County Game Law Changes Discussed at Meeting

Delegate Clarence B. Mason reported changes in Washington county game laws including food patches, small game sanctuaries, winter protection for brood stock, and pheasant releases on member farms. The new season would run Nov 1 to Nov 30. no separate squirrel season. bill designed as conservation and applicable to Allegany county.

In Fredeucksburg Virginia on April 3 a power outage cut the Sun nyside Grill from the grid. Con stable E. T. Robey said a saboteur severed five electric leads plunging the establishment into darkness.

Baltimore Man Held for Return on Large Misappropriation Charge

Frank H. Dempsey, 65, waived extradition and was held for transfer to Pittsburgh to face indictments accusing him of misappropriation of more than $500,000 as trustee of the Paul H. Hacke estate. Detectives said he admitted living two months at a mission for homeless men after arrest in Baltimore. They were en route to Pittsburgh to pursue the case.
