Story of Flag Woman Saved at Antietam
A retold reminiscence recalls Maria Teresa Kretzer the Sharpsburg woman called the Barbara Fritchie of the town for saving a Yankee flag during Confederate occupation. The account details how the flag was hidden in ashes then recovered after the war, with the witness showing the smoke house and flag site.
