Informer Fee Is Finally Outlawed In Maryland
Gov Ritchie signed the Laynor measure to end the informer's fee system, repealing state laws allowing informers to collect fines in criminal cases. He also approved a pay raise for General Assembly members from six to ten dollars and an additional five dollars for presiding officers. The constitutional amendment requires voter referendum at the next General Assembly.

Wrecked Train To Spite His Foreman
Jetta Oklahoma April 15 1923 George Darnell a 38 year old section hand confessed in court to plotting a train wreck to avenge his discharge by the foreman. He pleaded guilty to murder and faces a Wednesday sentence as Judge Swan weighs whether to impose the death penalty. Darnell said anger over dismissal led him to switch a rail just as a freight was due, causing the St Louis San Francisco passenger wreck that killed ten. In a separate item Mrs Mary Catherine Heggan Hamm Smeker filed suit for divorce from Atlee H Hamm.

At least ten counterfeit five dollar notes have been found in Hagerstown with more expected after a thorough check. A tall well dressed man is suspected as the passer. Merchants in nearby areas report similar losses as officers assist in tracing the notes. The faker made small purchases and often received more than four dollars in change.

Veto Asked To Save Island Oysters Livelihoods
