Voluntary 44 48 Hour Week Sought in War Industries
Washington April 4 The administration is reported to be sounding out labor leaders on a voluntary 44 or 48 hour work week at regular pay in war industries. Vice President Wallace and other Roosevelt aides are pushing for a pact between workers and management to quell disputes over the 40 hour week and head off possible restrictive labor legislation. Navy reports loss of three warships to Japanese bombs
The Navy said virtually unopposed Japanese bombers sank Langley the aircraft carrier along with two other warships in the Java battle. Wreckage Of Bomber With 9 Aboard Found
A four motor B 17 bomber crashed near the Utah Idaho line last night. Two men were killed and seven aboard are missing. Wreckage found near Bridge Idaho ten miles from the Utah border. The bomber departed Ogden Utah at 9 18 p m Mountain War Time and last reported to Hill Field three minutes after takeoff. A ground party from Boise was sent to the scene.
