Bill to Tighten Tax Collection and Defense Aid
The General Assembly approved provisions to spur tax collection in Washington County. The treasurer’s salary remains 9000 dollars yearly, but if taxes go uncollected after year one, the last quarter salary can be withheld until delinquent taxes are paid or adjusted with the County Commissioners. The bill also authorizes up to 35000 dollars of county funds to aid defense industries in emergencies, for county land projects as part of national defense.

Beard Of King Offered For Sale At Benefit Auction
In a Washington benefit sale for the British War Relief, a wisp of George III’s whiskers labeled as the king’s beard drew bids.
