Adelphia April 4 A Wilmington man, Thomas E F Pritchard, 70s, hears of a rumored estate in St Louis amounting to 40 000 000 linked to cannibal islands pirates and a mysterious heir. Pritchard explains he plans to verify the claim and travel to St Louis while dismissing any fear of fakers, saying he values sleep too much.
City Water Company workers began repairing a leak in a water main under the Western Maryland railroad crossing on West Washington Street. Water had flowed from the broken main for months, with an estimated 50,000 gallons leaking each day. In Winchester Virginia on April 4 county authorities probe the discovery of a newborn boy found in Shull's woods near Stephens City. Conley Cooley, 18, carried the infant home and Mrs. Cooley wrapped him in blankets until a doctor arrived. The baby shows pneumonia symptoms and investigators pursue several clues to identify those responsible.
Mary Co Weade of Shippensburg confessed to taking her week old son Earl Woods to a point outside the town and leaving him to die. After misleading police with false tips, she led officers to the body in a stone quarry. An autopsy and inquest were planned.
A woman was arrested after acting indifferently about a child she fed. She offered no motive beyond a vague statement about not wanting the Md. Roy Woods, her husband, was notified and has attempted to see her. The case proceeds as authorities investigate the circumstances.
Los Angeles April 4 Judge Reeve discharged the entire jury panel in the Arthur C. Burch murder case. The trial was adjourned to next Monday. Reeve planned a Wednesday hearing on defense claims that the panel had been tampered with.
