Collision sinks Waesland off Holyhead in fog storm
The British steamer Harmonides collided with and sank the Waesland about forty miles southwest of Holyhead. A passenger from the Waesland aboard the Harmonides reported that the Waesland sank after a second collision and boiler explosion. Two lives were lost, including Elsie Emmett, 12, with a woman injured. many passengers were rescued and later housed in Liverpool, awaiting onward travel to Philadelphia.
