Reports from London dated March 7 say General Roberts pauses near Osfontein as stores remounts and fresh troops flow toward him from the Cape. Natal is clear of Boers and Cape Colony nearly so. Boers concentrate to resist the main British army, fronts extending eight to eighteen miles with eight to ten thousand men estimated.
Thousands of men and smaller bodies move north and south of the British lines. Each army occupies positions on both sides of the Modder river as reported in the field notes.
The city board of education held its regular meeting last evening and allowed claims including O'Reilly and Brown for wood at 47 dollars, Californian printing for 175 dollars, H F Condict for drayage at 75 dollars, and C Brower for postage at 4.50 dollars.

The Fruit Growers Express and Continental Fruit Express still have cars tied up after rejecting Assessor Jameson’s demand for the full tax amount. They offered to pay their so called just taxes via two banks in Los Angeles and locally, but he refused any payment short of the total levied. He cited the board of equalization can define just taxes and noted the companies may appeal if they view valuations excessive. The firms declined the guarantee and the cars remain side tracked.
