Over two thousand applications were filed with the board of police commissioners to sell liquor. About 800 grants issued, with many awaiting investigation, and officials expect around 1500 saloons to reopen within the year. Transfers from burned areas to Western addition require justification.
Grand jury returns murder indictment against Harry K. Thaw for Stanford White shooting after inquest and rapid proceedings. Thaw is jailed without bail. Mrs Thaw declines to testify. Crowds surround the Tombs as the case advances.
The Kansas City Kansas anti saloon campaign intensified with destroyed liquor stocks and bar fixtures. Assistant Attorney General C W Trickett warned property owners to restrict joint keepers and rental of saloon premises or face demolition and contempt citations.
Milwaukee reports the resolutions committee presented a platform to the Democratic convention on June 28 1906 endorsing William Jennings Bryan as the party’s candidate for President in 1908 after an all night session.
Washington June 28 conferees on the railroad rate bill prepared their third report it will be signed by Senators Elkins Cullom and the three house conferees Tillman withholdings his signature The McLaurin commodity amendment was added to apply to railroad companies changing the term from common carriers to railroads to exempt pipelines The agreement is based on the senate bill but several provisions were struck out

He was in aitiable condition from exhaustion and physicians warned survival was unlikely. Rescuers, after hours of effort, finally freed the unconscious man as hope lingered for recovery.
The Morning Telegraph reports a fatal incident at Cafe Martin on Monday night. White and friends sat at a table on the terrace when he tapped Mrs Thaw on the shoulder and spoke inaudibly. Hours later Thaw shot White and Beal of California.
Mayor Harry K Lane discharged Portland relief committee formed after the San Francisco disaster to raise and disburse funds for fire victims. He appointed L Meeker to oversee the transfer of money directly to intended recipients while directing committee actions and stating his authority to remove members. Some members may resist the dismissal and future orders from Lane. Letters from James D Phelan and Dr Edward Devine urged forwarding the relief funds to San Francisco promptly.
