Patrick J. Thornton 45, a Kern City mining man, died after surviving the Central hotel blaze that began early Wednesday. He reached the stairs through flames, was carried to the street, and hospitalized with severe burns. an inquest will fix his identity and funeral is set for 3 pm tomorrow.
